Abstract Submission

General Dates

Online abstract submission for the 2011 Symposium will open in late October and close in late November. Submitters are notified via-email in mid-December of the status of their abstracts. Please check back for updates to the submission dates.

General Process

Due to high demand for presentation slots and in keeping with the theme of the event, only abstracts focusing on Alaska marine research are considered by the Review Committee.

The Review Committee evaluates abstracts based on Science Merit, Abstract writing, and General Considerations.  The latter is calculated automatically based on information already provided by submitters.

I want to give a TALK. What's the process?

Abstracts submitted before the deadline are evaluated by a Review Committee, which ensures that the abstract is relevant to the geographical and ecological scope of the Symposium. The Committee then scores each abstract on its quality and potential interest to the audience. Highest-scoring abstracts receive speaker slots.

You will be notified by e-mail of the status of your abstract submission in mid-December. This is not much lead time before the event in January, but the Symposium is run by a small staff of volunteers and we do our best to notify submitters as soon as we can.

We regularly receive more speaker requests than available speaker slots, so if your abstract is not selected for a talk, you will be offered the opportunity to present a poster.

Slots are strictly limited to 15 minutes, including time for questions and transition to the next speaker. This means that you effectively have 10 minutes for your talk. See our tips for giving a great talk at the Symposium.

I want to present a POSTER. What's the process?

All abstracts submitted for a poster presentation are accepted. However, you will still receive a confirmation e-mail in mid-December. In the meantime, you can get started on your poster. Learn more about poster specifications.
